Renting in Dhaka: what should be in your tenancy agreement

Renting in Dhaka: what should be in your tenancy agreement

Advance, service charge, utility responsibility and notice period — the clauses that prevent disputes later.

Buying, selling or renting property in Bangladesh involves more moving parts than most people expect. Prices vary street by street, service charges differ between buildings, and the paperwork chain — from the approved plan to the mutation certificate — needs checking at every step.

What to check first

Start with the documents. Ask for the title deed, the approved building plan, the occupancy certificate and the latest utility bills. If any of these are missing or "in process", treat that as a reason to slow down rather than a formality.

Getting the price right

Compare at least five recent transactions in the same building or block, not just current asking prices. Asking prices tell you what sellers hope for; closed transactions tell you what buyers actually paid.

Working with an agent

A good agent saves you far more than their commission by filtering out unsuitable listings, negotiating on evidence and coordinating the registration process. Every agent listed on Property Vista is verified and rated by past clients.
